Exploring the West Michigan Coffee Scene
West Michigan is known for a lot of things, but I think it should be known for its coffee scene. No matter where you are, there is a local coffee shop to try. My recent coffee crawl across West Michigan delivered some amazing drinks and well-crafted espresso. Here’s a guide to the must-visit spots and why they should be the destination for your next caffeine trip to Michigan.
205 Coffee Bar — 205 E Columbia Ave, Holland, MI 49423

This downtown Holland favorite is a total vibe. Known for its artisanal espresso drinks and even creative coffee cocktails (yes — coffee cocktails!), 205 blends community and a vibe with every cup. Also, try their waffles; they pair perfectly with any coffee. The space has great energy for brunch conversations or a cozy morning catch-up. Check them out here.
Simpatico Coffee — 714 Michigan Ave, Holland, MI 49423 (plus a northside location at 975 Butternut Dr)

Simpatico is synonymous with smooth, low-acid coffee with personality. Their welcoming shops in Holland serve some of the best coffee in West Michigan. The baristas truly care and want you to have the best coffee possible. Definitely check them out, no matter what. Learn more about Simpatico here. Alex, the owner, has a plethora of knowledge when it comes to coffee and it is clear just by walking in. Check them out here.
KIN Coffee and Craft House — 1200 Ottawa Beach Rd, Holland, MI 49424

Out on Ottawa Beach Road, KIN is a gem that’s easy to fall for. A favorite among locals (even voted one of Holland’s best), KIN’s cozy atmosphere makes it a great chill spot to enjoy a latte or cold brew before heading to the lakeshore. Their creative drink lineup and welcoming space make it more than just a coffee stop. They host art nights and urge the community to join in to get creative. The owners, Lynn and Jamie, are some of the best women in coffee. Check them out here.
Lemonjello’s Coffee — 61 E 9th St, Holland, MI 49423

Lemonjello’s mixes quality espresso with rich pastries and a lively, arts-infused atmosphere. It’s the kind of place where regulars feel like family and the seasonal drinks hit just right. Roots is known for being the it spot to catch up with friends or meet a coworker. It feels like the quintessential neighborhood coffee spot for Grand Rapids locals. From bagels to the perfect dirty chai, it’s great for both a casual breakfast and an afternoon coffee break with friends. The owner, Mallory, deeply cares about the community, and it is clear in the way this shop is set up. There is no online ordering to provide a better in-person experience with the baristas and community. Something Dripos loves to see. Check them out here.
Lyon Street Cafe — 617 Lyon St NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503

A cozy Heritage Hill classic, Lyon Street Cafe is that perfect mix of neighborhood coffee spot and local hangout. They have the best seasonal menu in Grand Rapids. I tried their Baklava latte, and when I tell you I chugged that thing. It was something from another planet. They also use Little Wolf coffee, which we have featured before.
